Snippets / The Tidbits We Hear

In hopes of conveying what is most important after interviewing people from both sides, I have come to the conclusion that the notion of a card exchange is the ideal means to express my findings. The idea of a greeting card dates back to ancient times when both the Egyptians and Chinese exchanged messages of goodwill. I'm deeply interested in a universal way of sharing ideas, learning from one another, and having a way of responding. I'm not interested in teaching my audience a new way of communicating, instead I'm more attracted by a well established system where I can elaborate and expand upon. I want the ideas of my project to be clearly understood and I want to educate my audience by comparing or contrasting two viewpoints, those from Hispanics and Americans. In a way, education will come in the form of a surprise respond between the dialog of two voices.

Literary two voices. I want to highlight the conclusions I discovered with the eleven people interviewed by designing a set of cards. When opened, a snippet from their interview will be reveled. The idea is for the person interacting with these cards to arrange them in any way and listen to everyone's perspectives. Perhaps one can be surprised by the way Hispanics feel about living in America, or find similarities in the way both groups responded to their experiences growing up in this country. I have found the means of recording key parts of their interviews, and a way of embedding these sounds into the cards. There are further extensions to this such as having blank cards where those hearing these sounds for the first time can write a comment. I can also mail them out to people across the country for a broader response, then collect them and show my findings. I'm interested in the individual change, and I believe strongly that this idea is an effective means of personal communication. The experience of clearly learning is what is most important.
